World Heritage Days

UNESCO World Heritage sites in Switzerland are opening their doors and inviting you to step into the world of our heritage through unique experiences! On 14 June, the Fortress of Bellinzona will come alive for World Heritage Days in Switzerland, offering a packed programme of events.

Programme:

CASTEL GRANDE

Concert in the Courtyard with the New Azzan Big Band

The historic New Azzan Big Band, founded in 1977 and conducted by Claudio Belloni, will bring its captivating jazz and swing repertoire to Castel Grande. With over 20 musicians, it is now one of the most popular musical ensembles in the Mendrisiotto region and will enliven the castle’s inner courtyard with its infectious energy.

Time: 10.30am – 12.00pm
Cost: free
The event will take place only in good weather.

Guided tour with Ivo Soldini of the exhibition “Progetto Castel Grande | Sculptures and Paintings”

Ivo Soldini will personally guide the public on a tour of the exhibition at Castel Grande, taking in the inner courtyard and the Sala Arsenale, where his monumental sculptures and over sixty previously unseen paintings interact with the medieval architecture and the landscape of Bellinzona. The artist will share his artistic vision and the creative process that brings his works to life.

Time: 14.00 – 15.00

Cost: the tour is included in the price of the admission ticket, which can be purchased online and/or at the Castel Grande ticket office.

JaBras, music at the Castle

A captivating concert where the warmth of bossa nova and samba intertwines with the elegance of jazz. Saxophonist Mirko Roccato and guitarist Fabio Mignola take the audience on an emotional musical journey. Inspired by the great classics of Antonio Carlos Jobim and other famous composers, “JaBras” offers refined and captivating sounds, in a blend of rhythms and creativity typical of Brazilian music.

Time: 3.30 pm – 4.30 pm
Cost: free
The event will take place only in good weather.

MONTEBELLO CASTLE

The Storyteller at Court

Storyteller Andrea Jacot Descombes presents a programme designed for young children, with stories told and sung throughout the afternoon. Short sessions of around 30 minutes, designed to capture the attention and entertain children of all ages.

Time: 14.00 – 17.00
Cost: free
A free shuttle bus will run from 13.30 to 17.30, providing a continuous service between ‘Largo Elvezia’ and ‘Montebello Castle’ (return journey).
The event will take place only in good weather.

SASSO CORBARO CASTLE

Guided tour with Maria Will of the exhibition “Fra Roberto within the walls”

The tour, led by co-curator Maria Will, will introduce visitors to the unique artistic personality of Fra Roberto Pasotti. An original interpreter of the relationship between art and faith, over the course of more than sixty years of work, Fra Roberto developed a style of painting characterised by profound human depth and a transcendent perspective. The castle, with its rooms steeped in history and its magnificent panoramic setting, provides the exhibition with a setting that is not only evocative but also rich in stimulating, reciprocal references.

Aperitif at Osteria Sasso Corbaro

Osteria Sasso Corbaro will be open to welcome visitors wishing to continue their day with an aperitif or a bite to eat. The menu features grilled dishes and gourmet sandwiches to be enjoyed in the castle’s picturesque courtyard.
