Swiss Castles Day: TRAVEL

Swiss Castles Day is the most important event organised by the Swiss Castles Association and its members. On the first Sunday in October, across Switzerland’s three language regions, a varied programme is offered to a wide audience, particularly families. On 4 October 2026, 32 castles will be offering exciting and varied programmes on the theme of ‘travel’.

Castel Grande Program:
11:00 a.m. – Music in the Courtyard

In the courtyard of Castel Grande, under the chestnut tree, a musical encounter featuring piano, violin, and vocals. A musical journey through jazz, soul, and masterpieces of classical music, reinterpreted with elegance, intensity, and artistic freedom. A diverse repertoire ranging from the sophisticated atmospheres of jazz to the warm sounds of soul, with forays into classical music, for an experience that will surprise and captivate. Event in collaboration with the 753ArteBellezza association.

Montebello Castle Program:
Medieval entertainment with “Spada nella Rocca”

A free shuttle service will be available from Largo Elvezia to Montebello Castle, running from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Castle’s outdoor lawn:
11:00 a.m. – Suedalp sword fight
11:30 a.m. – Andrea’s juggling act
11:45 a.m. – Demonstration of Italian courtly swordplay with the swordsmen of La Rocca
1:00 p.m. – Medieval dance demonstration with Maia Danze
1:30 p.m. – Suedalp sword fights
2:00 p.m. – Parade and presentation of the groups, followed by the official ceremony
2:15 p.m. – Multi-era reenactment featuring historical figures from the Fortress
2:45 p.m. – Medieval joust and circus-style horse show
3:15 p.m. – Performance by Roberto the fire-eater
4:30 p.m. – Sword show featuring the “Spafaccini della Rocca” with musicians
5:00 p.m. – Parade of groups; conclusion of the day

Inside the Castle:
1:30–2:30 p.m. – Storytelling by Madame Violante and Mariangela Martino
2:30–3:30 p.m. – Magic, theater, and juggling show with Auriga Teatro

Continuous entertainment inside the castle, including archery, camp life and crafts, children’s activities, music, fortune-tellers, merchants, and medieval market stalls.

Admission fees for activities at the Montebello Castle:

Adults CHF 10
Children up to 9 years old CHF 1
Ages 10 to 18 CHF 5
Free admission for Spada members

Please note that Castel Grande is hosting the exhibition “Progetto Castel Grande: Sculptures and Paintings by Ivo Soldini,” while at Sasso Corbaro Castle you can visit the exhibition “Fra Roberto tra le mura.”
